ROSTA AND SUSTAINABILITY

UNITED STATES

INDUSTRIAL-SCALE CHALLENGES
23% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the majority being carbon dioxide (CO2), come from industry. Approximately 25% of industrial CO2 emissions can be attributed to industries use of electricity.
Annual electricity consumption by Argentina’s resources and manufacturing sectors totals more than 75 billion kilowatt-hours. This electricity demand generates tens of millions of metric tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, a significant contribution to climate change.
According to the UN’s most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (ICCP) report, “addressing machine inefficiencies is one out of three key areas in which significant improvements can be made.”
Approximately one third of motors are equipped with friction belt drives. The performance and efficiency of many belt drives can be improved through the addition of dynamic tensioning technology, the resulting reductions in electricity consumption and associated Scope 2 CO2 emissions can be significant.

MANY “SMALL” IMPROVEMENTS
The electrical energy requirement of a single 200kW motor, running for 12 hours per day, results in approximately 496 tonnes* of Scope 2 CO2 emissions per year.

With ROSTA dynamic tensioning technology, the improved energy efficiency of the belt drive means the motor consumes less electricity for the machine to do the same amount of work.
In this example, annual CO2 emissions are reduced by at least tonnes. To sequester this amount of carbon would take the average lifespan of approximately50 trees!
With average commercial electricity costs of around /kWh, the efficiency improvements to this single drive would provide estimated electricity cost savings of annually.

BLUE AND GREEN WITH ROSTA
Belt drives are up to 98% energy efficient, however without optimum belt tension being maintained, up to 7% of the drive’s efficiency is lost as a result of increased belt slippage and heat generation.

ROSTA’s dynamic tensioning technology assures that belt tension and therefore drive efficiency is maintained at a higher level, and for longer, without manual adjustment.

With ROSTA, a belt drive’s total energy consumption can be reduced by 3-6%. Such enhancements can have materially positive effects on the environmental sustainability of processing plant operations.
